MCC updates!

the-arctic-commune:

Oooh, I just got a chance to watch the MCC update video and there’s so many cool things! Mainly, though, I’m so excited to see tridents-only Battle Box. If you haven’t seen: Battle Box, for only this MCC, will have tridents as its only weapon and on top of that, there’s two wool capture heads instead of one. Like, what. How. Two capture points??? Heh??? So much is happening. They are throwing a massive wrench in the path of the people who tend to go straight for a team-wipe over objective capture, and they’re making everyone fight with their worst weapon. I am thrilled. Chaos. Murder. Ready to watch the players struggle to find a strategy in real time.

A little less chaotically, the Battle Box announcement comes because of a bigger announcement I’m just as excited about: “Remixes.”  For this, they’re inviting specific competitors to suggest a one-time change for them to implement to a game in the next MCC. They seem to be focusing on funny changes, suggesting things like Survival Games But Everyone Has Speed.

At first glance, I love this idea. Getting ideas from competitors ensures that they won’t be too chaotic and engages them and their fans in the process. I like the idea of one-off changes because where Season One was constantly introducing new games and the players were always innovating new tactics, the end of Season Two felt like many games had set strategies and consistent top players. That would be good if this was a sport, but it’s not; it’s a party game. Adding these random, weird tricks gives us something new to look forward to and chat about, and something bizarre for the players to adapt to during play.

We’ll have to see how it plays out over a few MCC’s, but in general I’m super excited!

I am honestly very interested in how Battle Box plays out, because Noxite only really gave people like 30 hours notice and loyalty trident isn’t a common weapon to train. And two capture points changes the tactics entirely. It’ll be about how fast people can adapt to wildly different battle dynamics. Which is a different skill than being able to train sword and strafe. So I’m expecting that there may be some upsets in which teams do well. So, y’know, everyone be nice if your people bomb OR if they pop off.
