new star trek idea: aliens not knowing jack shit about earth animals. riker has to physically restrain worf from fighting a bear. janeway watches lovingly as tuvok cradles a duck in his arms. odo sees a blobfish and has a spiritual experience. kira fights a nile crocodile thinking it’s dukat. spock represses the urge to simply Hold a penguin.
This is great, except that Worf grew up on Earth. He would know what a bear was. He might try and fight one anyway.

aside from the ‘see i’m wearing her down’ bullshit the 90s required him to do 1-3 times a season, basically everything Bashir does that allegedly made him annoying or unlikable to early audiences just makes him a way better character and also, very very funny from the jump. He’s just out of his mind but very unassuming and well intentioned about it and he will eagerly play god for you if you give him even a slightly normal sounding justification. Dr John Starfleet director of starfleet medical was just like “Well with your grades why would you want to go work at Deep Space Nine, an abandoned shopping mall somehow stationed on both sides of the Space Iron Curtain” one day and Bashir was just like “Sir i’ll try anything once sir” in response and boy did he ever
My absolute favorite Alexander Siddig story - and oh boy I have a lot of favorites - is that one day he noticed everyone on the DS9 set was suddenly asking him these weird very carefully phrased gentle questions like hey buddy, how you doing? you feeling alright? Can we get you anything? you know you can always come to us for help if you need it and he was like wtf why is everyone being weird and it turned out that he had been showing up to set late and generally looking tired and the whole crew thought he had gotten into hard drugs but in reality what he was doing was staying up till 4 AM every night playing Ultima Online
