Hello there tumblr! It is I Cup with another survey, but this time this will be a more serious study! I realize this post will be long but the information below is important. Also, credit to @wigglesforsquiggles for their help with this survey thus far!
We always talk about as artists or for our artists moots about the art ratios being “bad”. Meaning that likes exceed reblogs, which do not contribute to visibility and promote art on the algorithm. So, based off our experiences I though it would be interesting to quantify that. I realize this is a big project and I am also a graduate student so I realize this may take a while/be a side project for me but it is something I really am interested doing.
The goal of this study is to not only quantify the ratio issues but to continue to serve as encouragement to REBLOG ART, especially in the mcytblr fandoms. All facets of mcytblr may participate (cc fans, mcc, empires smp, dsmp, etc.).
To explain the form here, there are 3 data points you may provide, meaning you may provide 3 art pieces as data for the survey. Your data and art WILL BE REPORTED ON ANONYMOUSLY only ever categorized by what “type” of art it is or what “fandom” it was for (dsmp art versus osmp art for example) though i do request you provide a link to the post on tumblr only so I can see that the art is a legitimate one, particularly one that is a few days old in posting (meaning a stable like:reblog ratio) though i do not mind really any time point of art because I may check that the ratios havent drastically updated before doing analysis. if you do not have 3 points of data to present and you are only providing 1 piece of art please type N/A into the required art link questions for 2 and 3 and then leave all other questions blank. Also note when I provide the raw data for the survey your art links will be censored for anonymity’s sake.
For some bias prevention, I will not provide any of my own art for this study.
All art is allowed including traditional art, felt art, plushies, writing, etc. If your art type is not listed you may hit other and specify. Same goes for fandom listings, please specify if your fandom is not listed.
Also art must be FROM TUMBLR this is not a twitter art study (or instagram/etc), though in the future I do think that would be interesting to compare numbers to! I will also not accept reposted art that is not yours (though i do realize sometimes it wont be obvious to me in all cases). Also you may not post art in the study on someone else’s behalf. I will be checking all entries to make sure the original poster is the same and that you did not provide 3 pieces of art from different tumblr users. If one art piece you posted was from an old blog/side blog/etc. you may specify to me in the comments that and thus your art can be included.
I realize this is not being conducted the most scientific way possible but like I said it will be a side project for me on top of schooling :)! I hope this is an enjoyable study for us all.
In how the data will be analyzed this is my preliminary plan but do realize this plan could change in the future: analyze overall ratios in mcytblr between different fandoms, between different types of art, between different cc’s and characters, between different MCC’s and teams, as well as any differences between lore events (such as doomsday versus final disc confrontation on the dream smp). I may even do statistical analysis if there are enough data points (such as significance testing/anova w/ post hoc/etc) (dont hold me to this one it really depends on how many responses i get/time/etc). Like my last survey I will post a powerpoint you may look through with links to my data and analysis.
I do reserve the right to omit data from analysis if it does not meet the requirements above (ex. you posted art on someone’s behalf, its twitter, its reposted, etc.) or it is against major boundaries (pr*ship for ex), against cc boundaries on their characters, or if your response to the survey is a “joke response” (meaning you didnt actually provide data for the survey, or the link you provided wasnt to art). I will be transparent about omissions and mark them in the data and I will give reasons as to why. I realize this adds bias to the study but i srsly will not participate in things against my boundaries and others for this survey.
