I like to think of later Starfleet engineers like B'Elanna and O'Brien losing their collective shit over that story they heard at the Academy about that one time they experimented with this magical propulsion system that could literally transport you anywhere and there was exactly one guy on one ship who somehow made it work and it fucking vanished on the way back to Earth leaving no trace it ever existed
