Hey, remember back in 2016 when there was a lot of cynicism on social media about how both the Democrats and the Republicans were hopelessly corrupt?
Remember how a lot of that turned out to come from Russian psy-ops designed to discourage left-leaning people from voting?
Because I do.
Self-reblogging because I’m seeing both a lot of cynicism about Democrats and a bit of “Biden’s got this sewn up, no need to bother voting” on my socials lately.
Anyone who tells you you shouldn’t vote does not have your best interests at heart.
Wanna know what it looks like from the outside? Because I’ll tell you.
Republicans are doing what they always do close to an election, they’re getting quiet. They sink into themselves as a group, and seemingly dissapear. They let whatever corrupt strategy their leadership have in place to disrupt the democratic vote play itself out, and they call their neighbours and family and check, “so you’re voting four more years, right?”.
And this seems to lull democrats into thinking that voting isn’t that big of a deal and that their candidate has it in the bag. And for some reason the Dems see this as a chance to either a) not vote, or b) vote for some stupid unelectable third party out of moral superiority. Dumb, stupid choices - both of them.
Meanwhile - come voting day - the Republicans show up, en masse and unobstructed, and quietly vote because it’s their civic duty, because strength is in numbers, because they know that they all have a part to play.
Republicans, for the selfish and morally bankrupt jerks that they are seem to have one thing very sure in their minds which Democrats don’t - the confidence that each and every vote matters, that it makes a difference, and is essential. And they act on that, at all costs.
Democrats: get your shit together. Republicans will be there, come election day, and you all need to be there, too.
