I’m honestly not particularly enjoying the epic dirtbag left joke of covid-19 as “le boomer remover” since it falls into the classic american generational war politics mess of thinking that all old people are wealthy conservatives, and also it just kinda comes off as this uh, bizarrely homicidal cope for people who are upset with the results of the democratic party primaries.
I happen to be in the at-risk demographics not due to age, but because of my general health. Some of the jokes I’ve seen have been less than inspiring in terms of seeing who my comrades are.
like, the second i saw these jokes flare up i was like “cool, everybody doing this is either cishet or completely disconnected from the lgbt community” since one of the at-risk demographics are immunocompromised people, which anybody with a passing knowledge of lgbt history would know are a significant group within our community, and like, even if they weren’t, wishing danger and death on huge numbers of people with health conditions solely to get back at some old conservatives comes off as some social darwinist eugenics shit.
The whole thing is *absolutely* some eugenics shit. Thinking that disabled & chronically ill & HIV+ people dying is a desirable thing is literally straight up eugenics ideology, idc if they call themselves leftist or not
I can’t believe “it’s a bad thing to wish for people’s death, even if you are ideologically opposed to them” is a discourse we have to be having.
A of all, meeting out death in retribution always catches the innocent as collateral damage— you only have to look at the justice system to see that.
And B of all, wishing for the death of an entire class of people has a lot of names, but “justice” isn’t one of them! Consider the orientation of your FUCKING heart!
